Suzy began her travel experience young, but never fully appreciated the experiences until she began traveling in high school. Traveling to the relatively unknown island of Andros in the Bahamas, Suzy learned the importance of eco-travel and indigenous groups of a country. In 2004, Suzy was able to study abroad in Cuzco, Peru. There, she lived with a family and had the opportunity to visit Machu Picchu and many other ruins in the area. Affected by the experience, and wanting to return to a Spanish speaking country, in 2006 she accepted an internship in Managua, Nicaragua with a fair trade company called Esperanza en Accion. While this internship gave her the first experiences she would have with a non-profit, she decided that she wanted to do something more than fair-trade in the non-profit sector.
After completing her fourth year at Colorado State University, majoring in Spanish and Political Science, Suzy attended the Stanford Graduate School of Business Summer Institute. At Stanford she learned about every aspect of Business in the span of a month, including non-profit management. She is currently finishing her final semester at Colorado State University and plans to graduate in December 2007. She hopes to work with non-profits for the rest of her life and specifically would like to focus on social and economic justice in Latin America. Suzy is very excited to work with Global Explorers and is learning as much as she can!
