Meghan grew up in Green Bay, WI (otherwise known as Titletown, USA). She was an avid soccer player and had the opportunity play in several European countries throughout high school. These soccer trips were her first international experiences and inspired her to seek opportunities for international travel in which she could more closely interact with the culture.
She graduated from Colorado State University with a B.S. in Natural Resource Recreation and Tourism. As an undergraduate she traveled to Costa Rica and Panama for an independent study at the Punta Mona Center for Sustainable Living and Education. After earning her permaculture design certificate, she completed an internship with Costa Rican Adventures. She was an assistant guide on ecological tours of the country for North American high school students. She then traveled to Ecuador where she participated in a month long field ecology and geology course.
In 2003, Meghan left the Front Range of Colorado for the Pacific Northwest. She earned her M. Ed. and Certificate in Leadership and Non-Profit Administration from Western Washington University and the North Cascades Institute. She was a core member of a team that successfully opened and operated the nationally recognized North Cascades Institute Learning Center.
While pursuing her graduate degree she continued to develop her passion for conservation as an associate of a green building design firm, Be Green Consulting. She jointly developed the Fundamentals in Green Building curriculum and coordinated professional training workshops for both the public sector and private firms. In 2005, she broadened her audience by co-authoring two books about the LEED Rating System.
