Join Global Explorers and bio-acoustic scientist Stan Rullman for an Amazon Adventure in surround sound! This spectacular experience will team blind, visually-impaired and sighted high school students for an unparalleled science, leadership, and cultural adventure in the Peruvian Amazon. While hiking through tropical forests and floating down Amazonian rivers, students will study one of the world’s most biologically diverse regions primarily by sound rather than sight. They’ll also learn about the culture of the local peoples, conduct a community service project, fish for piranha and climb into the canopy of the rainforest on a walkway above the trees.

For this unique digital sound collecting expedition, we will capture the acoustical essence of each layer of life: from canopy to forest floor. We’ll likely record and analyze the calls of birds, bats, frogs and much more. Students will learn how digital sound research is helping biologists inventory and monitor the diverse wildlife communities around the globe (including your own backyard!). Global Explorers, a non-profit organization providing educational international immersion experiences for students and teachers, is excited to offer this research expedition for the first time!

Travel Dates: August 5 - 14
