Ryan Charlston

Yes that’s me, the redhead! My name is Ryan. I thought I’d show one of my many pictures from my hiking life. My hiking life consists of the four things I love most. One, I love to hike! Two, I love to travel, even if it’s a minute drive in a car! Three, I absolutely love to help people! Lastly, I definitely love to have time to myself, to reflect on the environment around me. Two dreams of mine have been first, to do many meaningful things towards helping humanity, and second, to climb as many exotic, prodigious, and demanding mountains as possible. I’ve hiked, rock climbed, bouldered, buildered, kayaked, canoed, camped, and done most anything else you can do in nature. I mostly have hiked east coast mountains, my absolute favorite being Mount Katahdin, the tallest mountain on the east coast. It has been my favorite mountain, at least in the U.S., because it’s almost like rock climbing a whole mountain. Also, recently I was able to take a 15 day canoe trip up in Canada, which was more like a portaging trip, but it was the most amazing experience and the longest time I’ve ever been able to spend in the wilderness. I was especially privileged to have spent it in the Canadian wilderness! My traveling life and my service to humanity has just begun, and in an incredible way! This last summer I was greatly privileged to participate in an amazing experience in Peru. Global Explorers, along with Eric Weheinmayer, the first blind-man to summit Mount Everest, created a trip for eight sighted students, five blind students, and four visually impaired students. It was a trek along the Super Inca Trail, ultimately ending at Macchu Picchu. This experience in Peru has provided me with an unending source of inspiration, gratitude, and desire and insight into helping humanity. It was transforming, and I am ecstatic to be able to join in another remarkable experience with the same group of friends. We will travel into a world of extreme climbing variations in Tanzania, East Africa, as we plan to summit Mount Kilimanjaro! “Hakuna Matata”!
