I would hope that on the Super Inca Trail I could deepen my limited knowledge of Incan culture, but more importantly, have the opportunity to learn more about my own character. One of my greatest pleasures in life is my role as a student, both within the classroom and in life.

This year I am the student life vice president at my high school and a member of the service committee and outdoors club. I have played volleyball competitively since 7th grade and lacrosse since 8th grade. Traveling, outdoor activity, and reading are my main interests and I look forward to studying history and environmental science.

During the two weeks that I spent in Vietnam last March, I learned the importance of engaging in collaborative, cross-cultural learning opportunities. I believe that I will approach the Super Inca Trail Workshop with an open mind, ready and willing to challenge myself to understand my own personality and to empathize with the constraints of my peers to produce a rewarding experience for all.

The qualites I most value in a leader are the ability to listen, to empathize, and to work toward solutions that promote the well-being of as many people as possible. In many ways, I see a leader more as a facilitator – opening channels for creativity and expression. Ultimately, I hope that my leadership helps others to express themselves.
