Stan Rullman Ph.D. Student, University of Washington, Seattle, WA
Stan is a Ph.D. Candidate in the Wildlife Science Program at the University of Washington in Seattle. His research interests include the complex nature of predator-prey relationships, focusing on the effects of Cooper’s Hawk predation and presence on songbird nesting success and survival. His other research incorporated broadcast surveys for diurnal and nocturnal birds of prey along the urban-wildland gradient, and an interdisciplinary project exploring the influences of natural and cultural amenities on second home development.
Prior to starting his Ph.D., Stan worked as Research Naturalist for IslandWood. There, he instructed graduate ecology programs, developed and coordinated on-site research projects, assisted in long-term program and curriculum development and lead natural history field trips. Stan also served for eleven years as the Conservation Coordinator and Naturalist for the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden and as an adjunct instructor at the University of Cincinnati. Stan enjoys photography, recording the sounds of the natural world, and exploring the world with his wife and daughter. He holds a B.A. in Zoology from Miami University.
