A Warm Send-Off

The Global Explorers staff and Board of Directors congratulate you on an amazing job preparing for your 2006 journey. After a lot of hard work, it's just about time to go!

Throughout the summer, students from all over the U.S. will be heading off on life-changing journeys to Mexico, the Arctic, Tanzania, Costa Rica and Peru. Remember that on your trip, you are an ambassador representing your school, your community and your country. Treat this responsibility seriously. Embrace every new experience and be respectful of everyone you meet.

And be ready to learn! Three days into a spring break 2006 workshop in Baja California, a student named Carmen said ""I feel like I've learned a whole year's worth of school work even though I've only been here a few days." You'll learn a lot and have fun doing it!

We hope that this experience inspires you to return home to give back to your community or the community you visited in meaningful ways. As one student put it at the end of her trip to the Amazon Rainforest, "I want to bring my knowledge home and inspire people to change the way they think and live." We hope you do too!

A Few Final Reminders

  • Check your packing lists closely and remember to pack light!
  • Bring a laminated copy of your passport.
  • Don't forget to bring a long sleeve shirt/sweatshirt to wear on the airplane. It can get cold up in the air.
  • Drink plenty of water on the airplane – it's dry up there.
  • Be sure to write in your journal throughout your experience - You'll be happy you did years from now.
  • Pack any personal medications in your carry-on (including your anti-malarial pills if you're taking them).
  • No personal electronics such as Ipods, Gameboys or CD-Players. If you have free time, use it to get to know your peers, to read or to write.
  • If applicable, bring your language cards.
  • Bring your smiles because smiles cross all borders and cultures!
