art / introspection Seeking Through The Sky

By .

Ever since the beginnings of human existence, people have looked to the night sky for guidance. The stars in the sky have given constant assurance and direction to uncertain travelers who found themselves in distant lands or on lonely waves. Early peoples who could not decipher the ways of the world alone looked to the sky and saw a greater power that was helping them along. People still look to the sky for answers today. I think the night sky is so often searched for the truth and looked to for guidance because people believe that somewhere in the enormity and the seeming endlessness of the sky, there must be an answer to their question. Looking into the night sky is almost like looking into yourself. At first glance things may seem disorganized and crazy, but the more you look the more you understand. Soon you realize how beautiful the night sky is. After that you begin to notice how the stars come together to form constellations and that they are not at all disordered as you originally thought. My painting is a person who is trying to find himself with the night sky as his guide. He knows that if he searches hard enough, one day he will find exactly what he is looking for. One day, all that searching will have been worthwhile. As he looks into the stars, he contemplates not only what is above and around him, but what is within.
