Brian Miller Expedition Leader

Brian Miller is originally from Los Angeles, California. After getting a travel bug early in life, he has been set on finding adventure abroad. A community service trip to Costa Rica in 9th grade, followed by a semester abroad in Argentina, changed the direction of Brian’s life forever. Later, a trip to Chiapas, Mexico to work with indigenous women’s cooperatives first sparked an interest in issues of social justice and cultural exchange both at home and abroad.
Brian graduated in May 2005 from Colorado College where he combined his concern for social issues with his interest in environmental health by completing a self-designed major in Community-Based Conservation. While at Colorado College, Brian received two Howard Hughes grants, first studying forest fire mitigation strategy and later researching the habitat requirements of forest roosting bats in the Colorado Rocky Mountains.

Brian also had the opportunity to combine his interest for community well-being and environmental health while participating in the International Honors Program’s, “Indigenous Perspectives” study abroad program. While on the program, Brian stayed with indigenous communities in Mexico, New Zealand, India, and the U.S., learning about the environmental, political, and social issues affecting their communities.

Brian taught biology at Westridge School for Girls in Pasadena, California then left the classroom to teach environmental education at the school. Brian worked with students of all grade levels to start an environmental club, start a recycling program, worm composting program, run an alternative holiday market, and put on an Earth Day celebration. In addition, Brian taught a hands-on science program for 4th and 5th graders at the school.

Currently (when not travelling the world with Global Explorers), Brian owns and operates an event photography company called LA Photo Party. The company’s motto… Think Outside The Booth.

Over the past five years, Brian has led Global Explorers trips to: The Amazon, Peruvian Highlands, Tanzania, Costa Rica, Iceland, The Arctic, and The Grand Canyon.
