Meet Our Staff

Rosie O'Gara Expedition Leader

Rosie grew up in Lander, Wyoming, a small town at the base of the Wind River Mountains.  While she hasn’t been lucky enough to get back to a life in the mountains (yet), Rosie’s connection to and love of those ecosystems and cultures has spurred her to devote much of her time and energy to working to protect those places all around the world, and share them with as many people as possible.

Rosie received her BA from Stanford University in 2003 and her master’s degree in 2004 in Environmental Anthropology.  During college, she spent a semester in Costa Rica and Ecuador, hiking, kayaking and surfing.  Since that first trip, Rosie has done her best to get to and think about as many parts of the world as possible, traveling through other parts of Latin America and Asia.  Her most memorable experiences in the Galapagos Islands and in the Everest region of the Himalayas cemented her passion to protect these unparalleled places and support the livelihoods of the people who live in them.

Now living in San Francisco, Rosie works in the International Program of Earthjustice, a non-profit law firm that focuses on establishing the link between the environment and human rights, advancing environmentally sound trade policies, and promoting public participation in international environmental issues.  When not working, Rosie can be found playing ultimate Frisbee, enjoying the nearby mountains and Pacific Ocean, or training for triathlons.
